Simit belongs to Istanbul as the pizza belongs to Italy. The small sesame curl goes back to the Ottoman Empire and is the absolute favourite food of the locals for the small hunger in between. Emir Özedimir has been baking the crispiest simits of the city in the Karaköy district for over 30 years. You can buy the crispy Kringel 24 hours a day, come best in the morning around 7 o’clock or at noon around 12 o’clock, because the simits come fresh from the oven and are still wonderfully lukewarm.
