Let’s say upfront that Kiki’s is legendary. To dine at this trendy Greek restaurant is to partake of the larger galactic body of Dimes Square. You’re served large plates of grilled fish and drink house wine from tiny glasses, while a mob close to the fashion world trudges through the sign-less entrance in vintage boots and Vans. Oddly enough, though, the food at Kiki’s on the Lower East Side is much better than it needs to be. For all these reasons – the quality of the food, the ridiculous but coherent scene, the prices and the generous portions – we and New Yorkers love Kiki’s more than anything. Two dishes that are definitely not to be missed and are part of the Kiki’s experience are the grilled octopus and the cheesy, honey-dripping saganaki. Be prepared for a wait, especially on weekends, so it’s best to leave your phone number and stop around the corner for a pre-drink in the meantime.
