La Fonda is a real highlight of Cologne’s gastronomy scene: great atmosphere and superb food. The veal meatballs with spicy mustard are a must-try, but the wild broccoli and artichokes are also excellent. The cooking here is very skilful – for meat lovers and vegetarians alike. In summer, it’s wonderful to sit outside: car-free, relaxed, with a view of old walls – almost like a small piazza in Italy. The terrace is spacious and packed when the weather is good. You can’t get in without a reservation. The crowd is diverse, the atmosphere is casual, and the staff are really on the ball. And then there’s the wine list, which offers a good selection. La Fonda is a restaurant you can’t help but like – not overpriced and good in every way.
