La Tolerance is a real insider tip for anyone looking for traditional Moroccan cuisine without the chichi. A small, unpretentious restaurant with a few tables inside and outside – perfect for watching the hustle and bustle of Essaouira’s medina.
The chef’s suggestions are written on the chalkboard outside the door, including classics such as couscous royal. The Moroccan salads and freshly caught fish dishes are also highly recommended. The prices are fair, the food is home-made and the service is fast and friendly.
The atmosphere is particularly nice in the evening: candlelight in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the old town – a lively but cosy atmosphere. No frills, just good food in a great location.
