For more than three centuries, the Leone de Castris winery has been closely linked to the success story of wine-growing in Apulia. Thus the winery is still located in the place where the Duca Oronzo Arcangelo die Conti die Lemos laid the foundation stone in 1665 – in the boot heel of Italy, north-west of Lecce, in the small municipality of Salice Salentino. In 1943, the first Five Roses was launched, the first rose bottled in Italy. At the end of the sixties the management of the company was handed over to Junior, who also established the wines on the international markets. Even today, the winery is appreciated and honoured for the qualities it produces – not least as “Best Wine Producer of the Year”!
