In the middle of Upper Bavaria one meets Andy Warhol, Walter de Maria and Georg Baselitz. Heiner Friedrich, a gallery owner and patron of the arts, dedicated an art museum to modern art in 2011 in the old factory buildings in Traunreut, where the “Spatz” small car was formerly assembled. Even from the outside, the colorful façade is conspicuous, inside you can enjoy the work groups of four American and four German artists in the best light. Friedrich himself is a companion of the artists. He went from Munich to New York in 1970, was involved in the founding of the Dia Art Foundation and made the and art icon “Lightning” possible.
Field” by Walter de Marias in the desert of New Mexico. He was responsible for the pulsating art axis between New York and Munich, and now returned to his father’s metal workshops.
On 3000 square meters you will find works by Baselitz, Imi Knoebel, Uwe Lausen and Maria Zerres, supplemented by groups of works by John Chamberlain, Dan Flavin, de Maria and Warhol.Baselitz´s Portraits are upside down, Flavius “European Couples” shine and de Maria’s “Equal Area Series” is laid out on the floor. The presentation is to the point and one forgives the pretentious name “Maximum”. Here, Lenz doesn’t lose sight of the art that can be enjoyed in peace.
