The Hungarian national museum was founded in 1802 with the coin, book and manuscript collection of count Ferenc Széchenyi. This is one of Hungary’s most outstanding neo-classicistic buildings, designed by Mihály Pollack. Since 1846 it has been displaying the extensive National collection, containing more than a million objects of art. One of their permanent exhibitions for example is the history of Hungary, from the founding of the state up to 1990.
