The Metropolitan Museum of Art, also called The MET, is the largest museum in New York. Paris has the Louvre, New York has the Met. Located in an imposing building on New York’s Museum Mile, the Met has an incredibly comprehensive collection that spans more than 5,000 years of human creativity. The museum is so big that it is almost impossible to see everything. Therefore, it is best to take your time with three or four departments and neglect the rest. The Egyptian art collection, the American wing with its beautiful glass ceiling and the section of Dutch painters such as Vermeer and Rembrandt are absolutely recommended.
