The unspectacular residential area in which Mikawa Zezankyo is located suggests everything else but the best, noblest and most expensive tempura of all Tokyo is served here. Just as special and bizarre at the same time is the atmosphere – piano jingling, frying noises, concentrated working and otherwise silence. There is something sacred about a visit here. But well, here we enjoy. No wonder, even the “Japan Times” has chosen this place as one of the best in the city – that might mean something. Try the buttery squid and the crispy shiso leaves filled with sea urchin roe. By the way, the chef cooks in the tradition of the old edomae cuisine – which means that only what the season and region have to offer is cooked here.
