In the middle of the downtown skyscrapers is the Museum of Modern Art, a small, refined collection of sandstone buildings with glass pyramids by architect Arata Isozaki. In the collection are masterpieces by abstract expressionists, from Pop Art to contemporary American artists, including many emerging artists. Temporary exhibitions range from Cy Twombly to Cindy Sherman and Mike Kelley, from painting and installation to photography and video. Upon visiting the museum one can make a detour to the spectacular Disney Concert Hall across the street, designed out of curved steel by Frank Gehry. The MOCA also owns an exhibition building in the Pacific Design Center, West Hollywood, which hosts architecture and design shows along with a large store – plus, within walking distance of the MOCA is The Geffen Contemporary in Little Tokyo.
