That which truly represents San Francisco – Chris and Ben Ospital want to offer just that at Modern Appealing, a concept store of the highest order. Located in a large, bright yellow stable from 1840, here you will find selected fashion not only from known Belgian or Japanese designers, but also from local labels like Lemon Twist and Nice Collective, or, for example, an apron sporting a yawning boar from artist Tara Tucker. The Ospitals call their selection ‘Slow Clothing’: high quality clothes which should last 20 years, not only for special occasions but also daily wear. The clothes are finished by tailors where the quality of fabric is monitored just as carefully as the working conditions and wages. Also on offer is pottery from Bay Area artists, cosmetics from Heliotrope, a line by the Creative Growth Art Center, and pet necessities from George’s. One can spend hours in the Yellow, as the owners call the building. And it’s true! Visitors also have slowfood café Piccino, a Blue Bottle coffee shop and a wine store offering organic Italian and French wines at their fingertips.
