On Skeppsholmen is the Museum of Modern Art. It was built in 1998 by the Spanish architect Rafael Moneo, the same year, as was Stockholm European Capital of Culture. With its impressive range of Scandinavian and international painting, photography and video installations to over 1000 square meters of exhibition space, it is among the most important museums of art of the 20th Century. In addition to the well-stocked bookstore and particularly the café-restaurant is worth a visit, of which one has a fantastic view of the island of Djurgården.
