The way to Long Island City is not all that far, you can reach it by subway or watertaxi – and it’s worth it! Housed in an old public school building is the PS1, which, although linked since 2000 to the Museum of Modern Art, supports young, contemporary artistic positions: for experimentation paired with work by stars like Emily Brown, and famous installations. In addition, there’s work like James Turrells’ fantastic room “Meeting”, where you can perch on benches stretching along the wall and ponder whether the sky you are looking at is real or an optical illusion. As well as the art, you can let your gaze roam to the distant views of the Manhattan skyline. Or, after the museum visit, wander through the cosy neighbourhood down to the water.
