A true insider-tip. To reach it though you have to follow a path which adventurously leads you over bridges and through building sights in the middle of the Hafencity. Hidden underneath a train bridge you then see the almost remote, crooked house built by Fritz Höger and standing under heritage protection. Since June 2008, the house has been run by Thorsten Gillert in the way its former proprietresses would have wanted it. Dock workers mix with people from the scene to enjoy simple, honest meals like Frikadellen (rissoles), potato salad or salted herring sandwiches. Very much recommended is the Hamburg Rundstück, roasted pork on bread with gravy, a typical poor peoples’ dish, or the Hamburg hamburger with dill gherkin. The beautiful room on the first floor can also be rented privately.
