Petrin Couchette is a café-bakery that makes you want to move in right away, or where you think, oh how nice it would be to live in Marseille and stock up on delicacies here every morning. Behind it all is a trio from Marseille who are always a few steps ahead of everyone else: Laura, Julia and Harry, who also run the Livingston and Chardon. The centrepiece at Petrin Couchette, next to the beautiful yellow tiled counter, is the bread oven and the dough kneading machine. Delicious breads made with natural sourdough starters and heirloom wheat are conjured up here. Even the shop window beckons you into the bakery: Ham and cheese mustard seed toastie, a delicious focaccia with onions, potatoes and parmesan, lemon cake with icing or very chocolaty brownies made with chocolate from La Baleine à Cabosse. By the way, an absolute classic and favourite of the locals is the loaf of spelt and wheat bread.
