Roter Delfin – what a catchy name and just as catchy is the brightly coloured interior in red and blue. The minimalist eatery on Langstrasse definitely stands out. The menu is also quite minimalist, as the Roter Delfin only serves toasts, also known as ‘super toasts’. These include ‘Pickles of the Century’, ‘Butter Days Ahead’, ‘Chicken Rave on the Alp’ or ‘Giggle Coronation in the Mushroom Palace’. There are also ‘sidekicks’ aka side dishes such as leaf salad or red cabbage and milkshake or French toast tango for dessert. You have to pinch yourself for a moment, because such edgy concepts are more NYC-like than Zurich-like. But all the ingredients come from the surrounding area and from local producers: the mountain cheese comes from Schwellbrunn, the flour for the toast from the Tiefenbrunn mill, the mozzarella from Kemptthal and the cherries for the cherry dressing from Fricktal.
