Ruby Giulia Hotel Rome

The Ruby Giulia Hotel  is a rather good choice in Rome if you’re looking for modern design whilst still wanting to stay right in the heart of the city. The former office block of the Italian Ministry of the Interior has been converted into a 164-room hotel; the building’s past also provided the inspiration for the interior: Italian spy films of the 1970s. Dark wood, rich green, rust-red, terrazzo, brass, velvet and smoked glass – significantly more opulent than many other Ruby Hotels and, for Rome, surprisingly fitting. The rooms, ranging from 17 to 29 square metres, are rather compact but feature very comfortable beds, rain showers, dimmable lighting and the Marshall amp typical of Ruby. The communal areas at the very top are particularly impressive: the reception, bar and lounge are on the sixth floor, whilst above that lies the large rooftop terrace offering sweeping views across Rome. The location on Via Agostino Depretis is convenient – Termini is about a ten-minute walk away, whilst it’s also a quick walk towards Monti, the Forum and the Colosseum. You’ve got to like the Ruby concept with self-check-in and minimal service, but in return you get great value for money here. A very practical hotel in Rome for anyone who finds the city’s many classic boutique hotels a bit too ornate.
