All art lovers should not miss Schaulager. While it is neither a museum nor a classic warehouse, it could much more be described as an innovative institution for art. The impressive building, designed in 2003 by the Basel architects Herzog & de Meuron, is home to the non-exhibited works of the Emanuel Hoffmann Foundation, which are archived and documented here. Incidentally, since the collection is constantly growing and the art stored here has special needs in terms of space, size, acoustics and technology, an extension is being planned, on which Herzog & de Meuron are also working.
