Inaugurated in 1898 and dedicated to artistic freedom, the Secessionists erected this fascinating structure in the Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) style which emerged in the late 19th century. Faithfully true to the original design after complete destruction and numerous renovations, the venue today hosts exhibitions of contemporary art. On view in a room of its own is the famous frieze of Beethoven by Gustav Klimt, a striking example of the building’s original look.
