Hidden in the Linzergasse next to the late-baroque Church of St. Sebastian is the Sebastian Cemetery. Laid out in 1600 in the style of an Italian campo santo, this is the final resting place of old Salzburg merchant families and better-known personalities like Mozart’s wife and father and the natural scientist Paracelsus. The wonderful Gabriel Chapel in the middle of the cemetery houses the remains of the Bishop-Prince Wolf Dietrich. With its light flooded arcades and artful crosses, the cemetery is an island of peace for the permanent residents and those visitors escaping the rush of Linzergasse.
