Each Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, farmers from New York’s surrounds gather on the north and west sides of Union Square with fresh fruit and vegetables of the season, as well as cheese, fish and meat. This is the pioneer of New York’s Greenmarket project, the first farmers having erected stalls here in 1976. It’s simply wonderful to let yourself drift through the smells and colours, especially here in the centre of Midtown: between 5th Avenue and Broadway.
