In the 18th century, San Francisco’s first settlers called the area Yerba Buena. The Art Center located just across from SF MoMA chose that name because of its deep significance for the area’s culture. Contemporary art exhibitions, performances, concerts, dance and a video art archive with over 2,200 works are as integral to the centers mission as its work within the community: continuing education courses, Lectures and school programs. There is nothing at the Yerba Buena Center that’s lying around collecting dust. Since it has no permanent exhibition, the program here is always new and exciting.
