ZEIT CAFÉ Torrefaktum is a meeting place for intellectuals and a reading room in one. On the ground floor, it seems as if everyone has a lot to say. There is discussion and serious looking. On the upper floor, on the other hand, there is peace and quiet, people are working on their laptops and – yes, you heard right – reading the newspaper. A stack of ‘Zeit’ and its magazines is available here for you to pick up and browse through. Homemade cakes and really good coffee, freshly roasted by the Hamburg coffee roasting company Torrefaktum, are also available. Torrefaktum runs the café and places particular emphasis on sustainability. Almost 90% of the coffee is certified organic and fair trade. The ZEIT CAFE is located in the Helmut Schmidt House, where large photos commemorate the former chancellor. There are regular readings and cultural events in the historic building.
