Zur Traube is the perfect spot for a romantic dinner for two. The oldest wine tavern in Hamburg was founded in 1919 after having served the city for 30 years as a wine shop. The ground floor, almost completely furnished in dark wood and scrimshaw, you can smell the history. But its long history and traditions doesn’t make leave the place dusty or stuck up. The service is extraordinarily friendly and ready to patiently assist you in your choice of over 200 bottles and 45 open bottles. The guests are neighbors, teachers, businessmen and women, and students…If you want to be sure to have a place, best to reserve in advance especially if you would like to dine in the sleeker upstairs. Here cuddly tables for two are lit almost exclusively by candlelight. Special tip: ask for the niche table. And the magic of the kitchen is visible just behind the big wines bottles. A simple cheese plate rounds out a classic menu. A well-thought out space, well prepared food, at manageable prices.
