Cafe Majestic

Located at 112 Rua de Santa Catarina, Café Majestic is an institution through and through. This café is linked to the history of Porto in the 1920s and the tradition of the coffee houses. Politicians, writers and intellectuals met in coffee houses to discuss their ideas at leisure. The architect João Queirós created the elegant atmosphere of a ‘café chic’, in keeping with the Parisian taste of the time. Even today, Café Majestic is still full of grandeur and Art Nouveau – the walls are covered with mirrors of Antwerp crystal, the floor is covered with Indian marble and the benches are covered with leather. Oh, and then there are the treasures in the glass display case. Above all, the cheesecake with red fruits and Rananada, a cream of raisins, pine nuts, walnuts and soaked bread, is not to be missed.
