Es Petit Hotel de Valldemossa is one of those small establishments that perfectly captures the spirit of the place: intimate, cosy and right in the heart of it all, just a few steps from the Carthusian monastery and the narrow streets of the historic centre. This traditional Mallorcan house, with its natural stone, wooden beams and just a handful of rooms, has been carefully modernised and now combines the charm of an old village house with a surprisingly contemporary style. We find the new bar particularly successful: light wood, wicker chairs in a warm red, marble, indirect lighting and the rounded alcoves behind the bar lend the room an almost urban elegance. A lovely contrast to Valldemossa’s historic architecture. The real centrepiece of the hotel, however, is the terrace with its sweeping view over the village rooftops and across to the Tramuntana mountains. In the morning, it’s a wonderful spot to sit and have breakfast; later on, you can pop in for a coffee or a glass of wine – you’re welcome to do so even if you’re not staying at the hotel. Still, the best part is staying overnight: when the day-trippers gradually leave in the late afternoon and the alleyways are still quiet the next morning, you experience Valldemossa at its most relaxed.
