From the outside, King, which is located on a corner in Soho, looks quite inconspicuous. But there is a very special magic in the kitchen. The two chefs Jess Shadbolt and Clare de Boer met in London’s iconic River Cafe. The pair have a simple and elegant approach to cooking, taking inspiration from what’s available at the market and in their larder. The plates tend to be small, so feel free to order a few. Sometimes there’s canard confit with frisée, flageolet beans, savoy cabbage and mustard vinaigrette, sometimes rabbit pappardelle. The menu is unpredictable, but a great meal is guaranteed. The best time to go to Kings is at lunchtime for a relaxed lunch or in the evening when the mood becomes more intimate, preferably with a date!
