Memmo Alfama

This is a meeting place for what otherwise doesn’t belong together, as The Independente is both a hostel and a hotel with spacious suites. While the grand rooms with their old mosaic floors are furnished with three-storey bunk beds made of opulently grained naked wood, the suites are as spacious as the noble family who lived here or later the Swiss ambassador, in the midst of selected vintage furniture and balconies. There are 108 beds in 13 hostel rooms, each with a small adjoining room for meeting, relaxing or retreating. The dormitories have 6, 9 or 12 beds and there is a dormitory for women only. In the lobby with bookshelves, sofas and under large clocks, all the guests finally meet – or in the restaurant The Decandente with its beer garden.
