In a contemporary building designed by the French architect Henri Ciriani, the Museum “Musee Départemental Arles Antiques” presents the extensive archaeological finds of the city of Arles. In particular, the collection of late Roman sarcophagi impressively shows the social change from pagan to Christian symbolism up to the end of Roman times and is surpassed in number and quality only by the Vatican Museums in Rome. In order to better understand the development of the historically important city of Arles, a visit to the museum called “Musee blue” by the locals is unavoidable.
