Hotel du Cloître

Anyone staying at the Hôtel du Cloître can look forward to a rather special hotel – after all, India Mahdavi had a hand in its design. In this former monastery, she has struck just the right balance between historic Arles and her very own approach to colours and patterns. Old stone walls, high ceilings and irregularly shaped rooms meet bold blues, yellows and reds, graphic fabrics, patterned tiles and furniture, some of which was designed especially for the hotel. The rooms are all different and, thankfully, have retained a touch of playfulness without losing the building’s historic character. The location could hardly be better either: the hotel is situated right in the heart of the old town, right next to the Saint-Trophime cloister and just a few steps from the Place de la République. From here, you can explore Arles entirely on foot. The roof terrace is particularly lovely; in the late afternoon, you can sit there with an aperitif and look out over the city’s rooftops towards the richly decorated stone façade of Saint-Trophime. Downstairs, a small courtyard and the bar are among the hotel’s most pleasant meeting places. What’s more, the value for money is surprisingly good for such a centrally located and individually designed hotel. A hotel with plenty of character and one of the finest addresses for staying in the heart of historic Arles.
