Root Hotel Karaköy Bosphorus

The Root Karaköy Hotel is situated right in the part of Istanbul where the city is constantly on the move. Ferries set sail from the Bosphorus, people wander through Karaköy, and small cafés alternate with galleries and old shops. This makes the feeling all the more surprising when you step through the door. The hotel feels significantly quieter than the surroundings outside. The lounge area is particularly lovely, functioning almost as the very heart of the hotel. Tall windows let plenty of light into the room; plants stand between armchairs and sofas; patterned fabrics meet darker materials; art on the walls and warm lamps create an atmosphere in which you immediately feel at home. The room feels modern, but not cold; rather, it feels like a place where you’d linger after a long day in the city. And that is precisely what makes it interesting. Not everything feels strictly coordinated. There are small inconsistencies, individual details or elements that don’t quite speak the same stylistic language. But strangely enough, that is precisely what makes the room more human. It makes it feel less like a perfectly styled concept and more like a place that has evolved over time. In the morning with a coffee, in the afternoon with a book, or in the evening before heading back to your room – you quickly realise that you’re staying here much longer than you originally intended.
