The Le Fumoir restaurant at Georges Hotel Galata is particularly lovely. The large windows, the terrace and the view make it a place where you’ll be just as happy to sit in the morning as you are later in the evening. However, there are a few inconsistencies in the interior design. The exposed brick walls, some of which are also found in the rooms, don’t quite fit in everywhere and detract somewhat from the tranquillity that the rest of the building actually exudes. The restaurant, however, works all the better for it. There, the materials, lighting and views blend together much more harmoniously. That is precisely why many guests end up heading back up to the terrace. Down below, the narrow streets, cafés, restaurants and the daily hustle and bustle of Galata; up above, a little more peace and quiet. Particularly in terms of price, the hotel remains a surprisingly good value for money given its location and atmosphere. The restaurant, with its terrace, is particularly lovely. Large windows flood the room with light and open up the view over the city’s rooftops towards the Bosphorus and the Golden Horn. The atmosphere changes once again, particularly as evening falls. The city lights come on, the tables fill up, and you quickly realise why so many people are sitting here who aren’t just hotel guests.
