Tucked away on the edge of Puget Hill, in the Jardin des Colonnes and overlooking the Old Port, Sépia is a Marseille favourite for simple, refined market cuisine – with all-round views of Marseille, the sea and the cathedral, outdoor terrace and French hip-hop and rapper music blaring from the speakers. In 2017, the flat white building was completely renovated by architect Olivier Sabran and designer Julien Bouvet, with copper elements that echo the restaurant’s name, the Sépia colour and the kitchen’s primary utensil, the copper pot. Paul Langlère, who once trained under Michelin-starred chefs Julien Dumas and Philippe Marc, cooks intuitively and passionately here, working hand in hand with local producers to create seasonal dishes using fresh produce. This can be enjoyed either outside on the large shaded terrace at the edge of the park or inside, where large windows offer a breathtaking view of the port of Marseille. Be sure to book in advance!
