stilwerk Strandhotel Blankenese

The stilwerk Strandhotel Blankenese is one of those Hamburg establishments where the building itself and its location set the tone. Situated right on the banks of the Elbe, somewhat set back from the hustle and bustle of the city, this historic building, with its large arched windows, high ceilings and ancient columns, exudes an almost southern sense of spaciousness. The renovation has been remarkably successful: powdery shades of rosé and green in the public areas, complemented by dark wood, modern furniture and the occasional pattern that lends the whole a touch of playfulness. The rooms are particularly lovely, where the historic details have been thoughtfully extended through the use of colour. The light blue runs across walls, doors, frames and stucco, transforming the rather small rooms into something quite unique. None of the usual Hamburg hotel chic. Naturally, it’s best to book a room with a view of the Elbe and start your morning right by the water. The Strandhotel offers a great opportunity to experience Hamburg from Blankenese – almost like a mini-getaway, even though you’re still in the city. A hotel with character, where the interior design leaves enough room for the existing structure whilst still telling a new story.
