The long line around the corner on Franklin Street in Greenpoint says it all about Taqueria Ramirez. This tiny taco joint is no longer an insider tip, at least not for Brooklyn locals, but it’s still worth coming here for some of the best tacos in town. Much of Ramirez is modelled on typical Mexico City eateries – the tacos are served on the typical colourful plastic plates and are prepared with a choricera and a comal. Despite the queue, it usually never takes more than 15 minutes to get your tacos, which cost $4 each. They come with everything from shredded suadero and al pastor to longaniza with bright orange pork juice. The suadero stews long enough, about three hours, for the bottom part of the beef to fall apart. Our favourite taco, however, remains the tripa, which is baked to order with a blowtorch. You can enjoy the tacos directly at the counter, with a view of the kitchen or, if it’s very crowded, outside in front of the door.
