Three Marks Coffee is one of the cafés that have helped raise the profile of Barcelona’s speciality coffee scene, even in visual terms. Behind the project are, in fact, three ‘Marks’: Marc Aguyé, Marco De Rebotti and Marco Paccagnella. Aguyé and De Rebotti previously worked at Nømad Coffee, whilst Paccagnella has a background in design – a combination that is evident in the café’s overall aesthetic. The coffee shop on Carrer d’Ausiàs Marc is bright, industrial and minimalist, featuring concrete, steel, wood and excellent graphic design. Coffee is taken very seriously here: Three Marks roasts its own beans and works directly with selected producers on a long-term basis. The espresso, flat white and filter coffee are, as you’d expect, excellent; be sure to try a cardamom bullar alongside them – these wonderfully buttery, spiced Swedish yeast buns pair perfectly with the coffee. Three Marks has since grown into far more than just a small coffee shop, with its own roastery and academy, yet it has retained the youthful, personal energy of its three founders.
