The Casal dei Ronchi of Alighieri and Masi in Gargagnano is a showcase winery. In 1353 Pietro Alighieri, son of the world-famous poet Dante Alighieri, bought the historic winery, which has remained in family ownership ever since. It is a special mixture of monastery, castle and estate, which the historical winery radiates despite many careful renovations. The Alighieris have been cultivating wine and farming here for over five hundred years. Masi, another famous winery, has been managing the traditional vineyards of the Alighieri family for several decades.
At the end of the 18th century the history of Masi began in a small valley called “Vaio die Masi”. Today the vineyards of Masi and Alighieri extend from Tuscany to Argentina.
Wine tastings at Casa dei Ronchi are available for both Masi and Alighieri wines. In addition to the particularly exclusive vintages and various excellent wines, there is also grappa and olive oil made from traditional old mills.
For wine connoisseurs who want to stay longer in the world of wineries, there are eight apartments for rent in Foresteria, part of Casal die Ranchi.
