Yerebatan Sarayi is the largest and most atmospheric cistern of the old Byzanz. The cistern supplied the entire city with water, built under emperor Justinian. Yerebatan Sarayi is situated directly opposite the Hagia Sophia. Stairs lead the visitors to the “sunken palace”, where the water still stands today. This underground masterpiece is supported by 336 pillars. In summer classical music concerts are held here, tickets can be bought directly at the venue, or in hotels.
