Barbican Center is everything and nothing, all at the same time. One thing is for sure, this is Europe’s largest cultural center of this kind. Its main focus centers on music and theatre. It includes the Barbican Hall, which is the registered seat of the London Symphony Orchestra, the Barbican Theatre, the Barbican Art Gallery, three movie theaters, and an enormous library. Due to its size and layout, this complex is a true labyrinth. The building was designed by Chamberlain, Powell, and Bon, is architecturally complex and very controversial, and in 2003 was chosen as London’s ugliest building. However, it is not to be missed if you’re interested in architecture. The architectural style is categorized as brutalism. What is particularly impressive is the contrast of cold concrete, clear lines, and gardens on balconies, waterways, and fountains.
