La Maison Molière

La Maison Molière is a small, very personally run guesthouse in the heart of the La Roquette district, one of the most beautiful and pleasant neighbourhoods in Arles. The 18th-century house is surprisingly spacious, covering over 400 square metres, yet has only five rooms – resulting in a correspondingly private atmosphere. The hostess, Delphine Pincedé, is originally from Provence and has run a guesthouse before; her very personal touch can be felt throughout the house. The rooms are each individually decorated with antique furniture, linen, natural colours, beautiful fabrics and the occasional modern piece. There is also a large lounge with a library and, above all, the wonderful courtyard with its old stone arches, plants and small tables – the loveliest spot for breakfast in the mornings. Much of the food is homemade, using organic or local produce, seasonal fruit and home-made jams. The location is lovely too: you stay in the peaceful setting of La Roquette, yet are still just a few minutes’ walk from the heart of historic Arles. La Maison Molière is exactly the sort of small accommodation you’d be looking for here: individual, very tasteful and, with just five rooms, a far cry from a traditional hotel.
