At first we’d like to say: In this Genovesian renovated villa from the 17th century you will not find any of Matisse’s masterpieces. They are all in the USA. But you will get an interesting insight into the life and development of this painting genius who lived in Nice from 1917 to 1954. The collection contains almost every one of his sculptures as well as his engravings, sketches and oil-paintings, which have all been given to the museum by Matisse and his family. After the visit you can walk in Matisse’s footsteps, walk through the park and compare the light and the landscape to that found in his paintings.
