In Shibuya you can often be overwhelmed by the choice of bars, restaurants and clubs. Especially as these are often located on the 10th floor of an inconspicuous-looking high-rise building. But the Red Bar is hard to miss. With a big red ‘R’ at the entrance, which is curved from neon tubes, the bar attracts you magically. Inside, the bar is decorated with hundreds of small red lamps and lanterns that make the bar appear in a soft red. Because Tokyo’s nightlife is highly regulated, many clubs and bars close earlier than you would like. Funky DJs and opening hours from 8pm- 10am on Fridays and Saturdays make Red Bar a popular afterhour destination. But Red Bar is also an exciting place for the less wild, who would rather belong to the earlier shift. For a small “Music Charge” (or contribution for the DJ) of 500yen you can stay here with pleasure. Situated directly above a big street, you can comfortably watch the passing cars through a panorama window with a drink in your hand and let a frolicsome Tokyo night go by.
