Some, rather harshly, refer to the Silverlake coffee bar as “Dementia”, due to an occasional lack of communication skills on the part of the young hipsters who meet here. Instead of socially interacting, they may be deeply engaged with a Guatemala filter coffee, a grass-green Fuji Sencha tea, or heads buried in their laptops. The café is just as often the site of the reading of scripts, the spotting of Miranda July, and the everyday accommodation of local Intelligentsia converts. Queuing is generally necessary before one is to reach the simple bar, or enjoy the view of the hills and the Sunset traffic from the veranda. Seats are also in hot demand, but people also sit on the steps. The amazing coffee can currently be found in three locations in L.A., aside from Silverlake there’s one on Abbot Kinney in Venice Beach, and also on East Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena.
